To Councilman Steven Fulop, commitment is more than just a word; it defines every aspect of his life. Shortly after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Steve’s commitment to country compelled him to leave his job and United States Marine Corps., eventually serving in the Iraq War.

As president of the Paulus Hook Neighborhood Association, Steve realized that he could make a difference on the City Council. The commitment to improving his neighborhood and his city inspired him to run for public office. While serving on the City Council, Steven wanted to bring a more professional approach to city government. That commitment to a more efficient government is what drove Steve to earn simultaneous Maters degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from NYU and Columbia, while working full time and performing his duties as a councilman.

By looking at the things Councilman Fulop was able to accomplish over the last four years and the ambitious proposals he has outlined for the next term, it’s clear that he is committed to improving Ward E, committed to safety, committed to education, committed to lowering taxes and committed to making our city better.

Commitment isn’t a one way street. In fact, many of the great things that have been accomplished over the last term couldn’t have been done without the hard work and commitment from the community.

Jersey City residents have proven their commitment to making our city better.  That commitment was evident when thousands of residents worked together to gather signatures for two very important ballot initiatives in 2008. That commitment can be seen as residents continue to work together to organize in community groups, in neighborhood watches, and fight for causes that are important to them. That spirit of commitment is more powerful in Ward E now, then ever before.
