Historic Downtown Special Improvement District Plan

Jersey City is currently undergoing an unprecedented urban renewal. As an integral part of this renewal, the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District presents an essential pedestrian artery supplying a vitality and street life to the downtown business community. Emerging as a destination point, the city and HDSID's vision is to provide a quality area for shopping, fine dining, nightlife, and cultural venues for the community and its visitors.

Renewal has begun. The first step was to redefine Restaurant Row last year. Since that point we have started to see positive progress towards establishment and development of three new restaurants. The second step was the improvement at the Grove Street Path Plaza which is currently under construction.

The next steps are included below from a streetscape and conceptual plan that hopefully will encourage any building in need of improvement to invest in the community. Furthermore, the streetscape plan includes bike racks, trees, historic lighting, and improved cross-walks, to make for a more pedestrian friendly environment
All streetscape (benches, lighting, etc.) elements are LEED certified to be environmentally friendly and improve the possibility of grants being pursued.
