Mira Prinz-Arey for Ward B
As a long time West Side activist, Mira has proven her dedication to her community, and we know she will work each and every day to move Ward B forward.
As your councilwoman, Mira promises to:
- Keeping our streets safer by supporting a police force that is focused on community policing and a data-driven approach to targeting crime
- Working with community members and city hall to address quality-of-life issues like clean streets, parking and transportation
- Increasing city-owned open space
- Protecting our kids by backing programs that keep them engaged in extracurricular activities and off the streets
Mira Prinz Arey received her BA in Humanities, cum laude, with dual concentrations in Art History and History fron New York University. She has over 20 years experience in sales, marketing, event planning ,and fundraising in the fine arts, music,, and non-profit industries.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she moved to New York 19 years ago, where she met and married her best friend and partner, Howard John Arey.
They moved to Jersey City seven years ago and figured that getting involved with the community would be a great way to meet people and make new friends.
She joined the Jersey City Food Coop and her neighborhood association, and her work in community service grew from there. She managed the 2012 and 2013 Chef Showdown, the JC Food Coop's annual fundraiser.
As a Trustee of the West Side Community Alliance she is a co-founder and co-manager of the Farmers Market at Lincoln Park, now in its fourth season.
Mira co-founded "West Side Arts & Music" with Gaye Dunstan in 2014. They curate and host JC Fridays events four times a year, showcasing (in their opinion) the best local artists and musicians. Mira and Gaye have expanded the music series and produces "Lincoln Park Live, a summer music series at the Fountain in Lincoln Park..
She is on the executive board of the Jersey City Parks Coalition, and in 2015 worked with Feed JC to create the Dinner in the Parks series, a monthly dinner in a park in each ward. The money raised helped Feed JC provide food to over 600 of Jersey City's most needy.
She is a trustee of Friends of Audubon Park, a group that works with residents to clean and beautify the park. The group hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, and Christmas Tree Lighting.
In 2016 Mira Prinz Arey was nominated for and received the "Woman Of Action" award by Council President Rolando Lavarro.
She is a member of the Jersey City Rotary Club, committee woman for ward b, district 9, and a board member for the following groups: Jersey City Parks Coalition, Friends of Audubon Park, West Side Community Alliance, Liberty Humane Society and Keep Jersey City Beautiful. She represents the Jersey City Parks Coalition for the Jersey City Health Alliance; A Partnership for a Healthier JC.
