COUNCILMAN STEVEN FULOP TO REINTRODUCE DEVELOPER PAY-TO-PLAY ORDINANCE IN CITY COUNCIL

(Jersey City – Wednesday, August 05, 2009): Today, Councilman Steven Fulop (Ward E) announced that he will sponsor a Developer Pay-to-Play ordinance at the upcoming City Council meeting on Wednesday, August 12th.

In light of the developments in the last three weeks, when two prominent members of Jersey City municipal government were arrested as part of a corruption sting, this ordinance has taken on new importance. In 2007, a similar ordinance that was written by the Citizens’ Campaign and advocated by CivicJC, a citywide group focused on good government, was shot down by the Council with a 7-2 vote.

“Two years ago, the Council rejected limits on their relationship with Developers and Mayor Healy loudly proclaimed his resistance to this legislation in an op-ed,” said Councilman Steven Fulop. “It is imperative, for the safety and security of the residents of Jersey City that we reintroduce this ordinance and pass it.”

Councilman Fulop first joined City Council in 2005, and has been fighting against unchecked political contributions, nepotism, dual office holding, and pay-to-play politics ever since. For more information on what Councilman Fulop is doing now please visit www.stevenfulop.com
