Since being elected to the City Council in 2005, Councilman Fulop has been a reliable watchdog for Jersey City taxpayers. Councilman Fulop has exposed rampant government waste and has fought hard to implement new policies to run city government efficiently. Councilman Fulop’s record of fighting against wasteful policies on behalf of Jersey City taxpayers include the following:

  • Advocated for the city’s first hiring freeze
  • Only elected watchdog committed to stopping fiscal waste
  • Consistent record of advocating against unnecessary waterfront tax abatements
  • Only Councilperson to publicly stand up to mayor on his planned real estate transfer tax
  • Only Councilmember who didn’t vote to use tax dollars for bailout of state owned museum that mayor is on board for

In these tough economic times, it’s important that we elect fiscally responsible members of city government. With rising unemployment and foreclosure rates throughout our city, we cannot afford more devastating tax increases from our city government. As your advocate on the city council for the next four years, Steven Fulop will push for:

  • Fair compensation for use of Jersey City infrastructure from the Port Authority
  • A re-examination of Jersey City’s Tax Abatement policy
  • Eliminating redundant and wasteful city departments
  • Fixed cost contracting for city vendors
  • Introduce long term planning and modeling for the city budgets
  • Delivery of city budgets on time
