JERSEY CITY — Mayor Steven Fulop announced a proposal Wednesday for a city open space trust fund — a $1.2 million annual property tax boost to fund open space and parks in the state's second largest city.
The initiative, if approved by the City Council next week, would be placed on the November ballot. Voters statewide typically approve such measures and similar trust funds have been approved in Newark and Hoboken. The hit to taxpayers would be two cents per $100 of assessed property value, or an average of $20 a year
