Welcoming a New Class of Firefighters

This week in Jersey City, we swore in another class of firefighters. Personally, the special thing about this class is not only their commitment to the city, but the fact that this is the first class where every firefighter is also a military veteran.

During the past three years, we have hired 100 new firefighters and over 200 police officers who have helped us work toward replenishing the ranks of our fire and police departments, which were left depleted when we took office in 2013. Our fire department has grown to 568 firefighters, while our police department has grown from 779 to 866 officers - and we have done this all without increasing municipal taxes for three straight years.

You can read more about our commitment to public safety and these new firefighters here.  Please join me in congratulating this new class of brave men and women. I know they will have long and successful careers here in Jersey City.
