Steven Fulop serves on the Jersey City Municipal Council representing Ward "E" – the largest district in the city per registered voters which encompasses the entire Jersey City waterfront and downtown.

Councilman Fulop was elected to the city council in 2005 at the age of 27 making him the youngest elected official in Jersey City and the third youngest in the 200 year history of Jersey City. He won an upset victory against an incumbent that was backed by a powerful Hudson County political organization delivering what was the first and only such upset this decade. Since his election to the council, Steven has delivered many reform initiatives that have led to the press branding him in feature articles as "The Young Lion" (The New York Times) and a “Maverick” (The Jersey Journal).

Prior to serving on the City Council, Steven worked in the private sector focused on equity trading, first with Goldman Sachs and later at Sanford Bernstein. The entirety of his career has been in financial services with the exception of a period in 2002. After the tragic events of 9/11/01, he chose to leave his job at Goldman Sachs to enlist in the United States Marine Corps where he was among the first troops deployed to Iraq. While in Iraq, he was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for service including the Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Masts, and he was part of a team that was recognized with the prestigious Presidential Unit Citation. The Star Ledger profiled Steven Fulop on several occasions as a result of his choice to leave the comforts of Goldman Sachs to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Steven received his BA from SUNY Binghamton, his Master in Public Administration from Columbia University, and his Master in Business Administration from the NYU Stern School of Business. He is a current board member of Columbia University’s Alumni Association and the Learning Community Charter School, which has distinguished itself as a premier performing charter school in New Jersey. In his spare time, he is an avid runner, recently completing the NYC Marathon in 3:44 while raising money for the Hudson County Child Abuse Prevention Center.
